GSD methodology training for Tegra Global’s Industrial Engineering team in Central America was recently completed. The participants for the training were from the Tegra Global facilities in Honduras, Nicaragua and El Salvador. It included new students and also previously trained GSD Practitioners as the Tegra wished to ensure consistency of those trained.
GSD Methodology Phase 1 – GSD Motion Code & Predetermined Time Standard System
Kevin Gray, GSD Project Manager lead this first phase of the training, which took place during September and into October. It took place at the premises of New Holland Apparel (NHA) in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
During this classroom session Kevin provided the students with a systematic understanding of the practical applications of the GSD Motion Codes. He also explained the theory of the GSD Predetermined Time Standard (PTS) system.
Additional instructions, during this first phrase, included how to use GSD Enterprise software and set up the local production environment in the database.
This initial training also included practical group sessions to ensure those attending the sessions gained a full appreciation of the GSD process.
The GSD Theory Examination was successfully passed by all the students, consequently certificates were presented at the end of the session.
Licenced GSD Practitioners – An Overview
Once the full GSD training is completed, subject to the students passing all the examination, participants will become fully licenced GSD Practitioners.
They will then be equipped to adopt GSD’s scientific and fact based approach to optimise their own manufacturing methods. Once each macro element of their garment sewing operation is accurately measured and quantified, visibility of the company’s true manufacturing cost is revealed. This obviously results in improved decision making and the ability to optimise margins.
Practical Application of GSD Methodology
In December the students moved forward to take their newly acquired skills onto the shop floor. This important element of the training gives them the opportunity to assess the current processes on some of the company’s own core style. During this session the students made observations, took notes and to made videos of their existing operations.
These observations are subsequently reviewed, using the GSD methodology, at the macro, operation, features and style level.
This began the process of identifying waste within their current processes with the objective of eliminating that waste. Thereby benefiting from the cost-saving that implementation of GSD is expected to produce.
Success! The team are now fully licenced GSD Practitioners, ready to apply the GSD Methodology
We are delighted to announce all the student passed the final examinations to become fully licenced GSD Practitioners. Our congratulations to all.
