Business Change

Today’s retail environment is extremely competitive with consumers wanting more choice and more value for less money - and the stresses and strains felt on the high street are passed on to the sewn products manufacturers who supply the global brands and retailers. Smaller production quantities, rapid style variation, shorter lead times and increased pressure on product pricing are common trends experienced by today’s sewn products manufacturers - add to this dramatically rising raw material costs and it becomes evident, indeed imperative, that product cost should be controlled and managed wherever possible within the manufacturing process.

Thread is an essential raw material in the production of sewn products and thread adds to the costs associated to the “Bill of Materials” (BoM). It follows then, that thread costs should be measured and managed and that an accurate assessment of “Thread Demand” (the amount of thread required to manufacture a given product) is a key element in controlling product cost.

Additionally, managing the financial aspects of any business is essential to continued success – “cash is king” and an accurate assessment of stock requirement is important if working capital is not to be needlessly tied up in unwanted or unneeded raw materials. Money in the bank not in the stockroom!

In this context, the ability to accurately assess Thread Demand by product, and the ability to evaluate stock requirements by order, must surely offer great benefit to any sewn products manufacturer. And so to ITC”...
